Chameleon! is all about finding the perfect spot and matching your color to survive. But some areas on the map are way better than others. If you know where to look and how to blend properly, you can outsmart even the sharpest Seekers.
Here's what you need to know about the game's best-kept secrets.
Finding the Best Hiding Spots
The map has several locations that work as excellent hiding spots. The key is looking for areas where multiple colors meet or where the background has texture and depth. Walls, floors, and large objects are your friends — corners and tight spaces are especially good because Seekers have a harder time scanning them.
Pay attention to areas that naturally break up your silhouette. A solid wall is obvious; a spot near machinery, pillars, or environmental clutter is much harder to spot.
Mastering the Paint Mechanic
To hide effectively, you need to coat yourself in the right colors from the pools scattered across the map. Don't just pick one color — the best hiders coat themselves in layers, matching multiple colors in their hiding spot.
Before you commit to a location, scout the available paint colors nearby. If your hiding spot is purple and blue, find pools with those colors first. You want to blend in immediately without running around looking for paint.
Advanced Blending Techniques
Simply matching color isn't always enough. The best hiders position themselves where Seekers naturally won't look first. This means avoiding obvious places like dead centers of large open areas.
Instead, hide in transition areas — where walls meet floors, where shadows fall, or near game objects. These spots trick the eye because they're visually busy. A Seeker scanning quickly will miss you among all the visual noise.
Staying still is crucial. Any movement gives away your position. Once you've painted yourself and found your spot, resist the urge to reposition unless the Seeker is heading directly toward you.
Spots to Avoid
Some hiding spots are so common that experienced Seekers check them first. Avoid being predictable — don't always hide in the same corners, and don't cluster with other hiders. A group of players in one spot is easier to find than a lone player spread out.
Also watch out for areas with limited paint colors nearby. If your spot requires a specific color that's far away, you'll spend too much time running around and not enough time actually hiding.
Using Map Knowledge
The more you play, the better you'll understand the map's layout and which colors appear where. Experienced players memorize paint pool locations and use this knowledge to find ideal hiding spots in seconds.
Spend time in the lobby and during early rounds exploring. Learn where colors cluster, where cover is densest, and where Seekers typically start their search. This information is gold when you're trying to survive.
