Chameleon! is all about survival through camouflage. You'll paint your character, find clever hiding spots, and try to stay alive while Seekers hunt for you. Here are the essential tips to master the game from your first round.

Paint Your Avatar Before Hiding

Don't skip the painting phase. Navigate all the color pools available at the start of the round and coat your avatar thoroughly. The more paint you apply, the better your camouflage options. A fully painted dummy is harder for Seekers to spot than a partially painted one, so spend time layering different colors to match your environment.

💡 Tip — Paint in all available pools, not just one. Multiple color coats give you more flexibility when blending into different parts of the map.

Match the Map's Color Palette

Each map has dominant colors in its walls, floors, and objects. Look around before choosing your hiding spot, and paint yourself to match. If the map is mostly blue and gray, use those colors. If it's brown and green, adjust your paint job accordingly. The closer your avatar's colors are to the environment, the harder you are to spot.

Use Multiple Color Pools

Don't limit yourself to one color pool. Hit different pools to cover your avatar in various shades. This gives you options: you can hide against walls of one color, then switch spots to walls of another, and your painted look will still blend in. Variety in your paint scheme keeps Seekers guessing.

Pick Hiding Spots Early

Find your hiding spot as soon as the hiding phase begins. Scout the map quickly and claim a good location before other players take it. Spots that blend naturally with the environment—like corners where your paint matches the walls, or areas behind objects—are ideal. Don't wander around looking for the perfect spot; pick a decent one fast and stick with it.

Blend Into Walls and Floors

Position yourself against surfaces that match your paint colors. Flatten yourself against walls, hide in floor corners, or blend into larger objects. The goal is to make your avatar visually merge with the scenery so it's almost invisible at a glance. Seekers scan quickly, so if you're just a natural-looking extension of the environment, they'll pass right by.

Stay Still and Silent

Movement draws attention. Once you're hidden, don't move unless absolutely necessary. Seekers spot motion instantly—a character that stays completely still in the right spot is nearly invisible. If a Seeker is nearby, resist the urge to reposition. Wait for them to pass.

💡 Tip — The longer you survive without moving, the better your chances. Patience is your greatest asset.

Watch the Seeker's Movement

Even while hidden, pay attention to where the Seeker is looking and moving. If they're heading toward your spot, be ready to flee or hold your breath and stay perfectly still. Understanding their patrol patterns helps you anticipate danger and know when it's safe to adjust your position slightly.

Change Hiding Spots If Discovered

If a Seeker spots you or starts heading your way, don't panic—move to a different area of the map. Your paint job should help you blend in quickly at a new location. The key is to reposition before they reach you, giving yourself a second chance in the round.

💡 Tip — Always know 2–3 backup hiding spots before the round starts so you can escape if your first location is compromised.
