Murder Mystery 2 is a deduction game where players compete in rounds of mystery and survival. Created by Nikilis, it's all about figuring out who the killer isβ€”or being the killer yourself. Every round, players get assigned one of three roles with totally different objectives. Can you solve the mystery before it's too late?

What Is Murder Mystery 2?

Each match is a tense cat-and-mouse game. The majority of players are Innocents trying to survive and expose a hidden Murderer. One player is the Sheriff, the only person with a weapon who can stop the Murderer. The Murderer's job is simple: eliminate everyone before the Sheriff takes them down. The round ends when either the Murderer is defeated, all Innocents are eliminated, or time runs out.

The Three Roles

Your role changes each round. You won't know what you'll get until the game starts. Each role plays completely differently.

Innocent

You're part of the majority trying to survive. You have no weapon, so hiding and running are your main strategies. Use chat and observation to figure out who the Murderer is. Once you've identified them, work with the Sheriff to take them down.

Sheriff

You're the Innocents' best chance. You have a gun and can shoot the Murderer. Coordinate with other Innocents to locate and eliminate the threat. If you shoot an Innocent by mistake, you still have ammoβ€”but trust is harder to rebuild.

Murderer

You're outnumbered but dangerous. Your mission is to eliminate every other player before the Sheriff stops you. Stay hidden early, pick off players strategically, and avoid the Sheriff's gun at all costs.

πŸ’‘ Tip β€” Pay attention to player behavior. Suspicious movement, evasiveness, or nervousness can reveal someone's role.

Playing as an Innocent

When the round starts, you spawn with other Innocents. Here's what to do:

  1. Run and hide β€” Move away from crowds and find safe spots. Common hiding places are corners, rooms, and upper areas the Murderer can't reach easily.
  2. Stay aware β€” Watch for players acting strangely. Who's following people? Who disappeared suddenly? These are signs.
  3. Work with the Sheriff β€” Innocents know the Sheriff is on their team (but the Murderer and Sheriff don't know each other). Share information and protect the Sheriff's location.
  4. Communicate β€” Use the chat to discuss suspects and coordinate. But be carefulβ€”the Murderer is listening too.
  5. Survive β€” Your job is just to live. If you make it to the end without being eliminated, the Innocents win.

Playing as the Sheriff

You're the Innocents' protector. You know you're on the Innocent team, but no one else knows you have a gun.

  1. Stay hidden at first β€” Don't reveal yourself too early. The Murderer might focus on eliminating you before you can react.
  2. Watch for suspicious behavior β€” Look for players moving alone, targeting others, or acting frantically. These are hints the Murderer is near.
  3. Respond to danger β€” When you see the Murderer attack someone or suspect someone is the Murderer, move in and shoot.
  4. Be careful β€” Shooting an Innocent by mistake harms your team. Only fire when you're confident.
  5. Coordinate with Innocents β€” Once trusted players catch on that you're the Sheriff, work together to trap the Murderer.

Playing as the Murderer

You're outnumbered, but you have the element of surprise. Your goal is to eliminate everyone.

  1. Play it cool early β€” Don't attack right away. Blend in, move around naturally, and observe where players hide.
  2. Pick off isolated players β€” Go after Innocents who are alone and away from groups. Avoid crowded areas.
  3. Watch out for the Sheriff β€” You don't know who has the gun, but someone does. If a player suddenly pulls out a weapon, flee immediately.
  4. Create chaos β€” Hunt players in ways that cause panic. Confusion works in your favor because Innocents will blame each other.
  5. Know when to retreat β€” If the Sheriff spots you, run. Hide and heal (you regenerate over time), then hunt again.
πŸ’‘ Tip β€” As the Murderer, map knowledge is crucial. Learn where corners, dead ends, and safe passages are so you can hunt and escape efficiently.

Core Gameplay Loop

Each match follows the same basic flow:

  1. Round starts and roles are assigned.
  2. Countdown timer begins. Players spawn and the game begins.
  3. Innocents scatter and hide. The Sheriff secretly observes. The Murderer begins hunting.
  4. Innocents try to survive and identify the Murderer. The Sheriff looks for the threat.
  5. Round ends when: the Murderer is eliminated, all Innocents are dead, or time runs out.
  6. Winning team is announced. Players return to the lobby for the next round.

Tips for Beginners

  • Listen to chat β€” Other players will discuss suspects and suspicions. Use this info, but remember the Murderer can lie.
  • Don't trust everyone β€” Players accuse each other constantly. Make your own observations and form conclusions.
  • Learn the map β€” Spend time exploring hiding spots, tight corridors, and rooftop areas. Map knowledge helps in every role.
  • Move with groups when possible β€” Staying with other Innocents makes you harder to target and easier to protect.
  • Stay calm β€” Panic makes you easy to spot. Move deliberately and check corners before entering new areas.
  • Collect knives β€” Between rounds, you can trade and collect different knife cosmetics. This doesn't affect gameplay but rewards long-term play.
πŸ’‘ Tip β€” Each role teaches different skills. After a few rounds of each, you'll get better at reading players, spotting lies, and making quick decisions.
