ABA, short for Anime Battle Arena, is a fast-paced fighting game on Roblox where you pick an anime character and battle other players in 1v1 duels. You'll chain together basic attacks and aerial combos to defeat opponents, use special moves tied to your character, and trigger powerful transformations when you're ready for an edge.
This guide walks you through the controls, how combat works, and what you need to know in your first matches.
What Is ABA?
ABA is created by Dogs Studios: South and has been played by millions of players on Roblox. It's a pure fighting game—you spawn in an arena with an opponent, and the match is about landing hits, blocking incoming attacks, and managing your stamina to outlast them.
The game draws inspiration from anime fighting series and lets you transform into stronger forms as you play. Matches are quick and skill-based, so practice is key.
Basic Controls
Here's what each key does:
- Mouse1 (Left Click): Basic attack. Tap it repeatedly to string together combos.
- Space + Mouse1: Aerial attack. Jump and attack at the same time for hits that launch opponents into the air.
- Shift: Sprint. Hold it to move faster around the arena.
- Q: Dodge. Quick side step to avoid incoming attacks.
- F: Block. Hold this to reduce damage from enemy hits. You can't block forever—blocks break if hit too much.
- 1, 2, 3, 4: Special moves. Each character has unique abilities tied to these keys.
- G: Transformation. Trigger your character's powered-up form once you've built up enough meter during the fight.
Combat Fundamentals
The Basic Attack Chain
Your bread and butter is Mouse1. Tap it three or four times in quick succession to hit your opponent multiple times. Each character has their own attack pattern, so experimenting with timing is fun. The key is not to mash randomly—learn the rhythm of your character's combo.
Aerial Attacks and Combos
Space + Mouse1 launches you into the air and deals damage. If you land an aerial attack on a grounded opponent, you can follow up with more attacks before they touch the ground. This is the core of combo play—mixing ground attacks with aerial ones to keep pressure on your opponent.
Blocking and Dodging
Holding F blocks incoming attacks but drains your block meter. When your block breaks, you'll be stunned briefly. Use Q to dodge side to side—dodging is safer than blocking if you time it right, but it's harder to learn. New players should lean on blocking early and transition to dodging as they get better.
Stamina and Cooldowns
Every action—sprinting, attacking, blocking—uses stamina. When you're out of stamina, you move and attack slower. Don't spam attacks mindlessly. Back off, let your stamina recover, then re-engage.
Special Moves and Transformations
Special Moves (1, 2, 3, 4)
Each character has four unique special abilities tied to the number keys. These are powerful but usually have cooldowns, meaning you can't use them back-to-back. Early on, experiment to see what your character's moves do. Some deal huge damage, others control the arena with effects like freeze or knockback.
Transformations (G)
As you land hits and take hits during a match, you build up a transformation meter. Once it fills, press G to transform. Your character gets stronger, faster, and gains new attack effects. Transformations are game-changers, so landing the timing right can flip a losing match.
Tips for Beginners
Pick One Character and Stick With Them
Don't jump between characters every few matches. Learn one character's combos, special move cooldowns, and playstyle. Once you're comfortable, try others.
Learn the Combo Into Special Move Pattern
Most characters have a special move that combos naturally from their basic attacks. For example, hit twice with basic attack, then press a number key for a follow-up. Discovering these combos is how you burst down opponents fast.
Distance and Spacing Matter
Don't always be in your opponent's face. Sprint in, land a combo, back off, and reset. This wears them down while keeping you safe. Aggressive players who never stop attacking will run out of stamina or get punished.
Watch Good Players
If you're stuck, watch experienced players' matches. You'll pick up spacing, combo timing, and when to use special moves—lessons that apply to any fighting game.
Block More Than You Dodge at First
Dodging is rewarding but hard to master. Block incoming combos, then punish gaps when your opponent stops attacking. As you improve, mix in dodges to keep opponents guessing.
Have fun, stay patient with yourself, and remember that every loss teaches you something. Good luck in the arena!
