Tower Defense Simulator is a cooperative tower defense game made by Paradoxum Games. You and your team place defensive units on the map to stop waves of zombies from reaching the end. As you survive harder waves and boss fights, you'll unlock new towers with different powers and abilities.
This guide walks you through your first game and covers the core mechanics you need to know.
What Is Tower Defense Simulator?
In Tower Defense Simulator, you defend a map by placing towers (defensive units) along a path. Enemies spawn in waves and move toward your base. If too many enemies reach the end, your team loses. Your job is to position towers to deal damage and stop the threat before they break through.
The game is designed for teamwork. You and up to three other players pool your resources and coordinate tower placement to handle stronger and stronger enemy waves.
First 10 Minutes: Step by Step
1. Join a Game and Understand the Map
When you spawn, you'll see the map with a path where enemies travel. Your towers can be placed in the open areas around the path. Early on, the map is straightforward—enemies move in a single line toward your base.
2. Start Placing Your First Towers
You begin with starting cash. Use it to buy your first tower from the shop. Click on a tower in the menu, then click on an empty space to place it. Your first towers are weaker but cheap, so spread them along the enemy path to maximize coverage.
3. Watch the First Wave
Once the round starts, zombies will march down the path. Watch how your towers attack them. Some towers attack single targets, others hit groups. Notice which towers are effective against your enemies.
4. Earn Cash and Rebuild
As your towers deal damage and defeat enemies, you earn cash. After a wave ends, you have time to sell weak towers, rebuild, and place new units. Reinvest your earnings into better towers for the next wave.
5. Survive the Boss Fight
After several normal waves, a boss will appear—a much stronger enemy. Use your strongest towers and focus fire on the boss. If you survive, you'll unlock a new tower type and move to the next difficulty tier.
Core Game Loop
Every game follows this cycle:
- Prepare: Place or upgrade towers before the wave starts.
- Defend: Watch your towers fight enemies. You can't manually control towers—they auto-attack.
- Earn: Defeat enemies to gain cash.
- Rebuild: After the wave, sell underperforming towers and buy stronger ones.
- Repeat: Face harder waves until you lose or beat all rounds.
Main Controls and Mechanics
Placing and Managing Towers
Click a tower in the shop menu. Your cursor will show a preview of where it will be placed. Click on the ground to confirm. You can't place towers on the enemy path or on other towers.
To sell a tower (get money back), click it and select "sell." This is useful when you need cash or want to replace a weak tower with a stronger one.
Tower Stats
Each tower has stats displayed in the shop:
- Damage: How much health it removes from enemies per hit.
- Fire Rate: How fast it attacks.
- Range: How far it can reach enemies.
- Cost: How much cash you need to place it.
Better towers cost more but are much more powerful.
Health and Losing
Your base has health. Each enemy that reaches the end damages it by 1. If your base health hits zero, your team loses. To win, survive all waves or defeat the final boss.
Key Beginner Mechanics
Auto-Attack Towers
You don't manually aim or fire your towers—they automatically attack enemies in range. Your job is placement and strategy, not reflexes. Choose tower positions that maximize coverage of the path.
Selling and Upgrading
Selling a tower refunds a portion of its cost. Use this to pivot your strategy mid-game. If zombies suddenly have high health, sell weak towers and buy stronger ones. Don't be afraid to change your plan based on enemy types.
Team Resources
You and your teammates share the same cash pool. If one player spends a lot, there's less money for the team to buy more towers. Coordinate with your team to avoid overspending.
Wave Progression
Waves get harder as you progress. Enemies will have more health, move faster, or appear in larger groups. After certain waves, a boss will replace the normal enemy wave. Beating the boss unlocks a new tower type to use in future rounds.
Early Goals and Milestones
When you're just starting:
- Survive to Wave 5: Learn basic placement and tower behavior. Don't worry about optimization.
- Face Your First Boss: Get a feel for harder enemies and see which towers you unlock.
- Reach Wave 10: Build confidence in your strategy. Notice which towers you prefer to use.
- Unlock 3+ Tower Types: Experiment with different unit combinations to find your playstyle.
Common Beginner Mistakes
Placing Towers Too Bunched Up
If all your towers are in one small area, they overkill weak enemies while missing others. Spread towers across the path so they cover different zones.
Holding Cash Too Long
If you're sitting on a lot of money when a wave starts, you're not using your resources. Spend cash on towers before the wave begins. It's better to have a tower fighting than cash in the bank.
Ignoring Tower Placement
Placement is more important than which tower you buy. Two cheap towers placed well beat one expensive tower placed poorly. Think about the enemy path and range overlap.
Not Selling Underperforming Towers
If a tower isn't hitting enemies or is outdated, sell it. Use the cash to buy something better. Don't stick with bad towers out of loyalty.
Forgetting to Rebuild Between Waves
The wave ends, but if you don't buy new towers, you'll lose the next one. Always use your downtime to plan the next wave and spend your cash.
Bonus: Group Membership
You can join the Paradoxum Games group on Roblox to receive a bonus of $100 starting cash in Tower Defense Simulator. This gives you a head start on your first game. Look for the group link in the game description.
Next Steps
Once you're comfortable with the basics, try these challenges:
- Play harder difficulty tiers to unlock all tower types.
- Team up with experienced players to see different strategies.
- Focus on one tower type and master its placement patterns.
- Experiment with mixing different towers to create synergy.
Tower Defense Simulator rewards planning and teamwork. Have fun, learn from each game, and don't stress about losing early on—every round teaches you something new.
