Die of Death is an asymmetrical horror game with a playful twist. One player hunts; the others survive. What makes it special: randomness rules. Each match throws new mechanics at you, and survivors get random ability decks they have to work with. Strategy matters, but adapting matters more.

The game is actively being updated (the creators call it "not final"), so expect changes. That's part of the fun—no two matches play the same way.

Your First Match

When you jump in, you'll be placed in a match with other players. The game will assign you a role: either Survivor or Hunter (the killer). Most matches will have one Hunter and several Survivors.

Your job depends on your role:

  • As a Survivor: Stay alive. The Hunter will chase you. Work with your team to hide, escape, and complete objectives.
  • As a Hunter: Eliminate the Survivors. Use your abilities to track and catch them before they escape.

The match will start in a few seconds. Pay attention to the timer and which role you got.

Survivor Basics

When you spawn as a Survivor, you'll be in the map with other players. Your first priority: don't panic when the Hunter shows up.

Your survival toolkit:

  • Random abilities: You'll get a deck of random abilities you can use. Check what you have—one might let you hide, dash, or stun the Hunter. Use them wisely; most abilities have cooldowns.
  • Movement: Run and hide. The map has corners, rooms, and objects you can use for cover. Distance and obstacles are your friends.
  • Teamwork: Other Survivors can distract the Hunter while you escape. Coordinate when you can.

Winning as a Survivor usually means either lasting until time runs out or completing a map objective (this varies by match).

Hunter Basics

As the Hunter, you're the threat. Your job is to find and eliminate Survivors before the timer ends.

What you get:

  • Hunter abilities: You have a unique set of powers—tracking, speed boosts, or area attacks. These recharge on cooldown.
  • Pressure: Even if you don't catch everyone, making Survivors run and hide exhausts them and eats their time.
  • Map control: You'll learn quickly where Survivors hide. Cut off escape routes and corner them.

Your advantage is power; their advantage is numbers. Hunt methodically rather than chasing one Survivor across the map.

The Random Factor

Die of Death leans hard on chaos. Between matches, new gamemodes can appear. You don't know what rule changes or mechanics are coming until they happen.

This means:

  • No two matches feel identical.
  • A strategy that worked last round might not work this round.
  • Pay attention at the start of each match for what's different.
  • Stay flexible and adapt faster than your opponents.
💡 Tip — Don't memorize one strategy. The whole point of Die of Death is learning to improvise. Win by reading the match and adjusting.

Common Beginner Mistakes

Panicking when the Hunter appears: Panic = bad decisions. Take a breath, use your abilities smartly, and move with purpose.

Ignoring your ability deck: As a Survivor, you have random tools. Experiment with them early so you know what each one does. A wasted ability is a missed escape.

Playing solo: You're not alone. Survivors who stick near teammates have better odds. The Hunter can't chase everyone at once.

Giving up too early: Matches can swing. Surviving one more minute might be the win. Keep moving.

💡 Tip — If you die, stay for the next round or leave to find a fresh match. Both are fine—the game is meant to be fast and fun.

Controls and UI

Standard Roblox controls apply:

  • WASD or arrow keys: Move
  • Space: Jump
  • Mouse: Look around
  • Numbers or hotkeys: Use your abilities (check the UI for which keys activate what)

The on-screen UI will show your current role, abilities, and any important timers. Glance at it often.

Knowing When to Play

Each match is short—usually 5 to 10 minutes. Perfect for quick sessions. Hop in, adapt to the chaos, and see if you survive or hunt well. If it's not your round, the next one is minutes away.

💡 Tip — The game updates frequently. If something feels broken or odd, it might be a recent change. The creators actively work on balance, so come back later and try again.
