Basketball: Zero is a 5v5 competitive basketball game that rewards both quick decision-making and understanding your chosen character class. The controls are straightforward, but knowing how and when to use each action separates new players from experienced ones.

Master the Shooting Mechanic

Shooting is your primary way to score. To shoot, hold down left click. Your character will pull up and release the ball when you release the mouse button. Timing and distance matter — shots from outside the arc are harder but worth more. Start with shots closer to the basket while you develop a feel for the timing, then push out as your confidence grows.

Learn Pump Fakes to Create Space

A pump fake is a quick tap of left click (no holding). It makes your character fake a shot, which can confuse defenders into jumping or backing off. Use this when a defender is playing tight on you. A successful pump fake opens up a lane for a layup or a clearer shooting angle.

Pass to Move the Ball Quickly

Right click passes the ball to a nearby teammate. Passing moves the ball faster than dribbling and can break up defensive pressure. Look for open teammates on the wing or cutting to the basket. Smart passing leads to better shots for your whole team.

Use Dribbling to Advance and Escape

Press Q to dribble. This keeps the ball in play while you move around the court. Dribble to navigate toward the basket, reposition yourself away from defenders, or buy time while your teammates get open. Don't over-dribble — it's slower than passing and makes you predictable.

Finish at the Rim with Layups and Dunks

When you're close to the basket, press spacebar to attempt a layup or dunk. This is your highest-percentage scoring opportunity. Drive past defenders with dribble, or cut to the basket after a pass, then use spacebar to finish. These close-range attempts succeed more often than outside shots.

💡 Tip — Press spacebar right as a defender commits to jumping. Your character may avoid the block and convert a harder layup.

Choose a Class That Fits Your Playstyle

Each character class has unique abilities and an aura that affects your court presence. Before jumping into a match, try different classes in practice or warm-up games to find one that matches how you want to play. Some classes excel at scoring, others at defense or playmaking. Sticking with one class helps you master its strengths.

Position Yourself on Defense

When the other team has the ball, stay between your opponent and the basket. Keep your distance tight enough to contest shots but loose enough to react to drives. Moving laterally to mirror your opponent makes it harder for them to blow past you. Good defense forces bad shots and turnovers.

💡 Tip — Watch your opponent's aura and positioning. If they're setting up for a three-pointer, play closer. If they're driving, give yourself space to react.

Read the Court and Move to Space

Don't just stand still. Constantly move toward open spots where you can receive a pass and shoot uncontested. Cut toward the basket when teammates have the ball. This makes you a target for passes and forces the defense to react to you, which opens up other players.

Start with Practice Games

Use practice or casual matches to get comfortable with the controls and game pace before diving into ranked play. The fast pace of 5v5 can feel overwhelming at first, so familiarizing yourself with shooting, passing, and defense mechanics without pressure helps you improve faster. Focus on one skill at a time rather than trying to do everything at once.
